WELCOME TO McALESTER, OKLAHOMA!

PRESS RELEASE

June 7, 2013 -McAlester, OK

7:30PM

The Board of Directors for MPOWER Economic Development Corporation announced today that they have been unable to reach a mutually beneficial contract agreement with the City of McAlester and will therefore be closing its operation effective immediately.

The MPOWER Board wishes to thank Executive Director, Shari Cooper and her economic development team for their tireless and relentless efforts against an increasingly anti-business environment and lack of city leadership and support for economic development.

We also feel it necessary to express our regret with the City of McAlester's inability to provide much needed infrastructure and incentives.  Most importantly, we cite the lack of the city management's cooperation and honest integrity needed to attract new industry into McAlester.

Further, the political and business machine and environment that were created and nurtured in the McAlester/Pittsburg County area for the past sixty odd years have been the greatest obstacles of all to economic development of this beautiful region of our state--a region with plentiful natural resources which could have attracted and sustained industry and improved the lives of thousands of our residents. Rather than support the tireless and sincere efforts of MPOWER, its board and, its staff, that machine engaged in libel, stalking, and most recently, trespass for intimidation purposes upon the property of the MPOWER employees.  After exhausting every possibility, the board feels that it is in the best interest of the tax payers and MPOWER employees that we cease our operation.

However, we encourage every McAlester/Pittsburg County resident who wishes to see such corruption among their public servants and business leaders in this community become a thing of the past to stand up to and fight against such nefarious and self-serving tactics in the future. We sincerely wish you luck in those efforts.

It has been our honor to serve you, and we wish the citizens of McAlester the best in their future economic development endeavors.

Respectfully,

MPOWER Economic Development Corporation
Board of Directors
